I truthfully am incredibly lucky to live where I do within Ottawa! With the Central Experimental Farm only a 20 minute walk from my house, we truly have access to one of the greatest sites I believe Ottawa has to offer! Mostly everything the site has to offer is free (walking trails, ornamental gardens, arboretum, fields of crops and livestock, and so much more), with the exception of the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum. Mind you – it is not very expensive!
Benjamin, my sister and I decided to check out the museum, and I must say, I was really impressed! They give you a map once you pay admission and you can really explore however you want. I must say – Benjamin was WAY too young to enjoy to experience… there’s a reason kids under 2 are free! He did enjoy looking at the animals, but other than that it was pretty much wasted on him. They have different buildings with different animals in them, and it’s all very educational. I would say once Benjamin is 2-3 years old, that’ll more than likely be our go to spot in the summer!
All in all though, it was a fantastic day, and a really fun experience. At least now I’ll have the lay of the land for when Benjamin is older enjoy it like it was meant! I would highly recommend this museum for a cheap, fun day with your children! They also do birthday parties! Keep an eye on their website for different events and festivals that they put on at the farm!
